Sancoale sarpanch slams Civil Supplies over errors in ration cards

Card holders' names either missing or spelt incorrrectly; names of deceased listed as head of family

VASCO: Sancoale sarpanch Ramakant Borkar has slammed the Civil Supplies department for creating more confusion through the new ration cards, which allegedly have numerous errors. He claimed that most of the cards, which were given to the panchayat to distribute to the applicants, contained serious errors, including missing names and spelling mistakes; in some cards, the names of deceased persons have been listed as the head of family.
“These are serious mistakes. Many villagers have been coming to the panchayat with complaints of several types of errors. The card holders will have to face severe hardships only in getting the card details corrected,” said Borkar.
According to information, the pink ration cards were distributed through the panchayat secretaries from October 26 to November 4. On Wednesday, several people gathered at the panchayat to complain about the errors and seek the panchayat’s intervention in the matter.
“The villagers were facing hardships as they had to come all the way to panchayat to collect the new ration card. Many of them were excited to receive the cards, but they received a major shock on noticing the errors. It was surprising to see that they have omitted names arbitrarily, which is incorrect and needs to be sorted out, otherwise the panchayat will have to raise the issue before the State administration,” said Borkar.
