MARGAO: Residents of Benaulim expressed concern after an elevated portion of the beach at Wadi got washed away in erosion.
Locals pointed out that every year the water that would come up to the lower level of the shore closer to the water has now started going further up closer to the land.
Locals are concerned that the sand erosion can change the landscape of the beach. They said that the elevated portion, that has been affected, was a sand dune in the past, but it has become smaller in size over the time and may soon cease to be a sand dune.
There have been incidents of in-tide sand erosion at Talpona beach and Canaguinim beach recently.
