CALANGUTE: In anticipation of the traffic from the national highway slated to be diverted via Sangolda, to facilitate the elevated corridor at Porvorim, many of the internal roads in Sangolda and Pilerne, besides the CHOGM road are being widened and hotmixed.
According to PWD officials, 23 alternate road stretches have been identified for the traffic diversion, including 14 on the CHOGM road.
The PWD has given work orders for 13 road stretches in the two villages, Saligao MLA Kedar Naik said during the launch of hotmixing of roads in Sangolda and Pilerne recently.
Many of the roads were also neglected for the last few years and there was a long-pending demand to widen and hotmix them, he added.
In Sangolda, the internal roads were in a bad condition after they were dug for laying of underground electricity cables and also for the laying of sewerage pipeline network.
In Pilerne, road widening work has started from the Chandrageet hotel junction to Pilerne panchayat. He said all the road works will be completed before the election code of conduct starts for the Lok Sabha election, in a few weeks.
