SANGUEM: In view of the order passed by the Adhoc District Session Judge Margao, the Director of Panchayat in a memorandum has directed the Sanguem Block Development Officer (BDO) to instruct Archana Uday Gaonkar to vacate the post of Netravali Sarpanch to pave way for Rajani Gaonkar to occupy the seat.
It is pertinent to note here that the Director of Panchayat in an order passed in February 2019 had terminated Sarpanch Rajani Gaonkar and Deputy Sarpanch Abhijit Desai from the primary membership of the panchayat and had terminated the duo from holding the post of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch respectively.
Aggrieved with the order passed by the Director of Panchayat, the duo filed an appeal before the District Court in Margao, which set aside the order passed by the Panchayat Director.
Accordingly Rajani Gaonkar and Abhijit Desai were to continue with their respective posts in the panchayat.
However , while the appeal was sub judice the Director of Panchayat convened fresh elections to the post of Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch in April wherein Archana Uday Gaonkar was elected as Sarpanch. The post of deputy sarpanch however remained vacant as no nominations were received.
However, despite the order passed by the District Court, Rajani Gaonkar could not occupy the post of sarpanch as Archana Uday Gaonkar also rightfully continued to hold the post after being duly elected by the panchayat members.
