SANGUEM: The Sanguem Municipality on Sunday ordered the Electricity Department to cut the ‘Gulmuhor’ tree partly, which was leaning dangerously towards the main road and posing a threat to the live electricity wires supplying power to the Bamonsai ward.
Considering the imminent danger, both to life and property, ward councillor Romualdo Fernandes approached the office of the Deputy Collector Sanguem and obtained the necessary order to get the tree cut from the private property in the interest of the public with the help of Curchorem Fire Services Department personnel.
Fernandes informed that in the last monsoon, a branch from the tree had fallen on the live wires leaving the entire ward in total darkness. This year, also there were possibilities of more branches giving way as the tree has become old and as such as a precautionary measure, I approached the Deputy Collector for necessary orders to get the tree cut which the Deputy Collector duly obliged.
Following the orders from the Deputy Collector Ajay Gaude, a portion of the tree which posed danger to the electricity supply wires were cut on Sunday by the Fire Department personnel with the help of Sanguem Municipal workers.
However, two huge branches which threatened the existence of a small house lying beneath the tree are still left to be cut. While the cutting of the remaining two branches is a difficult task given the existence of the house beneath it, the very existence of the remaining two branches is seen as a major threat to the people living in the house. The people living in the area have appealed the authorities to get the tree cut to the bottom and allay all danger that lies to the inmates of the house existing beneath the house.
