SANGUEM: In an expected move, the Chairperson of Sanguem Municipal Council Suryadatt Naik on Tuesday submitted his resignation to the Director of Municipal Administration Panjim from the post of chairperson.
Though the resignation came all of a sudden, it was but expected that Naik would resign this month.
The resignation of Naik will pave way for two-time councillor Romualdo Fernandes to be the next chairperson of SMC.
However, there is a possibility of Gaonkar vying for the post. But with Romualdo enjoying the support from majority of councillors and local MLA Prasad Gaonkar, the odds are in favour of Romualdo who is also the senior most councillor.
