SANGUEM: Deputy Collector Sanguem Ajay Gaude instructed the police and the RTO officials to come down heavily on the truckers operating in Sanguem and Curchorem for violating traffic rules and other regulations framed by the High Court.

The meeting held in the office of the Deputy Collector, Sanguem was attended by officials from the mining companies besides RTO and Traffic officials.

Gaude brought to the notice of the mining officials and Traffic Police of the large scale violations by truckers involved in transporting mineral ore and highlighted the problems faced by motorists in commuting along the roads in Curchorem, Sanvordem and Kalay-Sanguem.

He said the movement of trucks laden with mineral ore without maintaining any gap has caused traffic chaos in the area and directed the mine owners to leave just one truck at an interval of every three minutes to maintain road discipline.

He directed the Traffic and the RTO officials to check the over speeding of trucks as against the mandatory speed of 40 kmph and instructed the Traffic officials not to take the things lightly and fine the erring truckers as they tend to ignore the restrictions imposed by the authorities. If need be, regular offenders should be stopped from plying at the mines for some days.

He directed the mining officials to clear the ore spillage on the roads at regular intervals and depute security guards at strategic locations to control the traffic violations.

Gaude urged the mining officials not to rely on the traffic officials for the maintenance of law and order.

It is pertinent to note that since the commencement of mining transportation in Sanguem, the truckers are found violating all norms and traffic discipline in their pursuit to make maximum trips.

He cautioned the mine owners in case of any accidents.

Meanwhile, residents hailed Gaude for holding the meeting.

However, it needs to be seen whether the RTO and Traffic Police officials act into the matter judiciously, said a Sanguem resident.
