SANGUEM, JAN 19
Residents of Bendwaddo-Sanguem on Wednesday blocked roads to protest over heavy movement of mining trucks through the town, particularly the vehicles from the Bimbol mines via Kalay and Uguem.
Led by SMC Councillor Suryadatt Naik, the residents blocked the traffic at Bendwaddo and permitted it to proceed only after warning all truck operators from Bimbol Mines to follow the route otherwise destined for vehicles from Bimbol Mines.
It may be recalled that normally truck operators carrying ore from various mines in Bimbol proceed to unloading point at Capxem via Dhadem-Sanvordem. However, as the truck operators have to face frequent blocks along the Dhadem-Sanvordem-Bimbol route, they prefer to ply their trucks via Kalay-Uguem-Sanguem road as there is less traffic on this route.
In the flash strike, the residents warned the truck operators of stringent action, if they continued to ply their trucks via Kalay-Uguem-Sanguem route.
The residents told Herald that if the vehicles continued to ply along the Kalay-Sanguem route, they would resort to a road-blockade agitation at Bendwaddo on January 20.
