Sanguem locals puzzled over renovation work of Irrigation Dept’s wall

SANGUEM: The locals from Sanguem are puzzled over the recent renovation and painting work of the compound wall at the Irrigation Department owned Rest House, at Pajimol, Sanguem.

While the department have not undertaken any renovation work of the Rest House, the renovation and painting work of the compound wall smells of a rat, claim the locals.

The Rest House was constructed during the time of the construction of Selaulim Dam and was widely used during its initial years either for the conduct of department meetings or for stay of VIPs visiting the Selaulim Dam. The Rest House is equipped with four rooms, a full-fledged kitchen and a dining-cum-conference room which is adorned with full size photographs of the Selaulim Dam.

During the Congress regime and even during the first term of the Mahonar Parrikar-led BJP government, the Rest House was used for the conduct of the Rehabilitation Committee meetings as the venue was convenient for the displaced villagers to attend the meetings and air their grievances. Of late, the Rest House came to the good use of the local politicians to conduct private parties and also for small meetings.

However, since the time of the construction of the WRD Rest House on the other side of the Selaulim Dam and another at Xelpem Water Treatment, the demand for conduct of meetings and get together at the Irrigation Department owned Rest House reduced to a considerable extent.

Sources informed that the department has spend several lakhs of rupees on the renovation and painting of the compound wall of the Rest House which was absolutely not necessary as the Rest House is itself located within the property of the department and barely few metres away from the department’s main Office, at Pajimol.
