SANGUEM: Flying Squad In-Charge of Sanguem and Sanguem Mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit conducted raids at two different locations in Sanguem over the complaints of illegal stone quarrying in private properties.
While the action in one of the two cases was taken suo moto, the other raid was conducted based on the complaint lodged by a resident from Sanguem.
Pandit informed that equipped with credible information, he along with officials from the Directorate of Mines and Geology raided an in-operation laterite stone quarry in a private property at Rivona, Sanguem and seized a power tiller used in the illegal operation of the stone quarry.
He further informed that the team however could not arrest any person as they reportedly ran away from the site after seeing the inspection team.
Meanwhile, in another raid conducted by the team at Mugoli village, the officers returned empty-handed as no recent traces of extraction of laterite stones were found at the site.
Flying Squad In-Charge Pandit informed that the raid at Mugoli village was conducted at the behest of a complaint lodged by a resident from Sanguem. However, upon site inspection at the two properties mentioned in the complaint, we did not get any traces of illegal laterite stone being extracted from the property.
The raids were conducted in view of the recent order passed by the Bombay High Court at Goa.
The Flying Squad In-Charge also informed that following the raids at the two places, the police officials are directed to keep strict vigil at the two sites to see no illegal activities are being conducted in the days to come.
