PANJIM: Sanguem independent MLA Prasad Gaonkar on Thursday slammed the State government for allotting four lakh square metres of land of the Sanjivani Sugar Factory to the National Forensic Science University instead of two lakh square metres.
Gaonkar told media persons that during discussion on calling attention notice on Sanjivani Sugar Factory in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed them that the government has decided to allot two lakh square metres of land belonging to the Sanjivan Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Limited to the proposed National Forensic Science University at Dharbandora.
However, Gaonkar produced a memorandum dated October 19, 2021 issued by South Goa Deputy Collector (Revenue) Snehal Prabhu conveying the government’s approval to transfer approximately four lakh square metres of land of Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Limited for setting up of campus of National Forensic science University and the International Law University.
Gaonkar alleged that the Chief Minister has lied to the members on the floor of the House and is playing with the sentiments of the sugarcane farmers. He said that the sugarcane farmers were also not taken into confidence over the decision to transfer four lakh square metres of land to the National Forensic Science University.
It may be recalled that Union Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Shah during his visit to poll-bound Goa had laid the foundation stone of the National Forensic Sciences University.
