SANGUEM: Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar has threatened to launch a sit-in protest along with the people from Sanguem at Xelpem Power Station if his primary demand for supply of labour to tackle power supply problem in Sanguem is not fulfilled by July 13.
Speaking at an agitation at the Electricity Department Office, Sanguem on Thursday, Gaonkar said instead of sitting for the assembly session, he would sit at the Xelpem Power Station along with the people.
He said despite the department having to cover maximum area, the government has failed in sanctioning desired manpower to the Sanguem Electricity Department and this has severely affected the power supply in Sanguem.
Gaonkar demanded sanctioning at least ten linesmen at Quepem division and another eight at Sanguem solely at his disposal to tackle the problems. The supply of additional manpower will help in solving about 30 percent of the problems faced by the people, he claimed.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has assured to provide additional man power by tomorrow, Gaonkar informed.
The lack of desired manpower hampers the very functioning of the department. The presence of one or two linesmen in the villages does not help in any way in solving the power supply problems, added Gaonkar, claiming that he at his own cost has engaged five to six labourers on regular basis.
