SANGUEM: The Sanguem Municipal Council stopped the sale of fish by the roadside after local vendors and residents raised objections as it was creating a nuisance.
Since the vendors sell their fresh catch by the roadside, buyers, especially on the two-wheelers stop their vehicles to buy fish here. This poses risk to the traffic. “Despite asking the Sanguem municipality to ban sale of fish by the vendors who sit on the side of the road, the civic body hasn’t taken any action yet. I would understand if this was done only for a day but this has become an everyday affair. This is affecting business of those selling fish at the market,” said local fish vendor Agnel Fernandes.
Taking note of the complaint by the local vendors, Sanguem municipal chief officer Gaurish Gaonkar directed municipal supervisor Luis Fernandes to stop sale of fish by the roadside.
