Sanguem police nab serial robber targeting senior citizens outside banks

SANGUEM: Sanguem police arrested Krishna Molu Velip, a 48-year-old resident of Barcem- Quepem, for allegedly preying on senior citizens by robbing them under the guise of offering a lift to their residences.

Velip’s modus operandi involved wearing a helmet and positioning himself on his two-wheeler outside banks and ATMs. Upon spotting elderly citizens withdrawing money, he would offer them a lift to their homes. Seizing opportune moments, he would then drop his victims midway, fabricate excuses, and coerce them into parting with money under the pretext of an emergency, before swiftly disappearing.

Reports indicate that Velip looted three individuals using this method, evading detection as the elderly victims refrained from filing formal complaints. However, a senior citizen, Kondo Toko Rekdo from Dessai Wada, Uguem, filed a complaint recently, detailing how he was robbed of Rs 2,000.

In response to the complaint, the police orchestrated a stakeout at prominent banks in Sanguem, ultimately apprehending the suspect based on the description provided by the complainant. Velip is set to appear before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Sanguem, for remand proceedings.

The arrest was affected by a team led by PSI Gokuldas Gaonkar, under the supervision of PI Pravin Gawas.
