SANGUEM: The Sanguem Electricity Departmemt has been hit by acute manpower shortage and this has led to power problems in the town area during the last three days.
With just two linesmen for the entire Sanguem town, which is spread across ten wards, the citizens are compelled to go without power supply for most part of the day and night as the two workers cannot manage the problems.
Manoday Phadte, a resident of Ambdoi ward in Sanguem Municipality claimed that the villagers had to wait for over ten hours on Thursday for the replacement of a blown up fuse to get the power supply restored.
Youth activist Messiah (Meshu) Dcosta called on the authorities to immediately increase the manpower at least for the town area during the monsoon season to minimum six linesmen. “Two linesmen are simply not enough to look after the power supply problems in the town area at all times”, said Dcosta.
Dcosta also said there is a need for a separate transformer for Ambdoi ward.
Dcosta added that despite the best efforts by AE Dinesh Gomes and his staff in restoring power supply, the acute shortage of manpower has crippled the functioning of the Department.
Meanwhile, citizens also pointed out that the employees during times of emergencies at night, work without proper equipments.
“The workers use their mobile torches to rectify faults during night as they have no torches and this practice needs to be rectified in the best interest of the employees”, Dcosta added.
