Sanguem residents demand implementation of HC order

Following the tragic death of a youth from Taripanto-Sanguem on Tuesday, residents of Sanguem on Wednesday urged Quepem Deputy Collector Agnelo Fernandes for immediate implementation of High Court order for trucks transporting ore from various mines at Sanguem.
In a memorandum submitted to the deputy collector, the residents also sought necessary directions from the deputy collector for the stoppage of transportation activity of ore from Sanguem till the funeral ceremony of Martin Fernandes is held.
Acting on the representation made by the residents, Deputy Collector Fernandes visited Sanguem town early Wednesday morning to take stock of the situation and see that no trucks ply along the Sanguem-Curchorem road as was assured by him to the locals earlier.
Police sources at Sanguem police station informed that mining companies in operation in Sanguem have assured that no transportation activity will be conducted from the mines till May 8 or as otherwise directed by the officials.
The locals in their representation stated that since long they have been demanding implementation of the High Court order with respect to the movement of the trucks carrying ore from various mines in Sanguem and also restrictions on the load carrying capacity of the trucks plying in the region.
The locals are also demanding regulation of trucks and stoppage of overloading and overtaking by trucks from Sanguem upto the unloading point.
Speaking to Herald, the deputy collector assured total co-operation to the locals from his office and informed of his office having contacted the requisite offices for the stoppage of movement of trucks carrying ore from Sanguem till funeral services of Martin Fernandes are held.
