SANGUEM: South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha inaugurated CCTV cameras in Sanguem town on Saturday, but the event was marred by the boycott by Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai and most councillors of the Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC).
The CCTV cameras all around the Sanguem market area and other strategic locations have been installed under the MPLAD Scheme.
The CCTV cameras are installed in the municipal area for the benefit of general public as it will help track the movement of suspicious persons in the area and also assist the police in detection of crimes based on the footage.
Except for councillor Dr Revansiddh Naik, who is also the Sanguem Block Congress president, all other councillors along with SMC Chairperson Agnelo Da Costa and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai boycotted the installation function.
When contacted, Da Costa said there was no point in attending the function when the local MLA was sidelined and kept in dark about the inaugural function.
Asked to comment on the boycott of the Sanguem MLA and other SMC councillors at the function, Sardinha replied, “It is not my responsibility to see who is invited for the function or not. It is for the municipality to send the invitations.”
Others who attended the inaugural function included Minguelinho D’Costa and SMC Chief Officer Pramod Phaldessai.
