SANGUEM: The villagers residing at Wadem Colony No. 1 who exclusively depend on the drinking water supplied from an overhead tank in the village have expressed fears of the water tank facing a collapse if the supporting cement poles are not repaired.

A villager Chandan Unandkar informed that the tank was constructed about 35 years back at the time of the rehabilitation of the Selaulim evacuees. Since the time of the construction of the tank, it has never been maintained nor have the authorities undertaken repair works of the tank and its structure.

“Some months back, the villagers had brought the issue to the notice of the PWD authorities and the authorities had assured of undertaking the repair works of the structure that supports the water tank but till date the department has failed in doing the needful,” said Unandkar.

On account of the failure of the authorities to repair the structural works, the cement pieces of the poles have started crumbling and are falling apart.

Unandkar mentioned that if the structure is not repaired immediately than there are is every possibility of the water tank facing a collapse leading to severe problems in the supply of drinking water to the villagers.
