SANGUEM: The construction work on the four-lane Dando bridge, which had abruptly halted last month when the contractor abandoned the project and moved construction machinery elsewhere, was restarted on Monday. The resumption of work comes after the media spotlighted the issue and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Desai intervened, urging the GSIDC (Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation) to take action.
Construction on the Dando bridge began in 2019 but was paused shortly after the foundation stone was laid, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021, after persistent efforts by former Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar, the work resumed. However, in 2022, construction work was once again abruptly halted, prompting local citizens to protest and demand the project’s continuation.
The recent halt occurred when the bridge was nearing completion, with the contractor discontinuing work and relocating the construction machinery.
The work has now resumed, and the contractor has brought back heavy machinery to the site to focus on the construction of approach roads.
