Sanjivani farmers give govt 15 days to clear its stand on ethanol plant

Vow not to allow any other project on sugar factory land; threaten to launch an agitation against the project

PONDA: Serving a 15-day deadline on the State government to clear its stand on the proposed ethanol plant on Sanjivani Sugar Factory land, Sanjivani Sugarcane Farmers Association has vowed that it will not allow any other project at the site and threatened to launch an agitation against the project.

Addressing media persons, Association president Rajendra Desai said, “The Government had earlier expressed its inability to start the sugar factory and had told the farmers to find a contractor to run the ethanol plant. Accordingly, the farmers selected a contractor from Karnataka having all experience to run such an ethanol plant. We along with the contractor met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and held discussions on starting an ethanol Plant in the presence of Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai. Several days have passed since we met the Chief Minister but the government is yet to clear its stand on the proposed ethanol plant.”

“The government should clear its stand or else we will stage an agitation and will also not allow the government to set up other projects on the sugar factory land,” Desai warned.

The other office bearers including Harshal Prabudesai, Dayanand Faldesai, Francis Mascarenhas, and Gurudas Gaad were present.
