PANJIM: The State government on Thursday constituted Sugarcane Farmer Facilitation Committee for Sanjivani Sugar Factory, to resolve various hardships faced by the sugarcane farmers in Goa.
A 23-member Committee under former Law Commissioner Adv Narendra Sawaikar has been constituted by the State Agriculture Department.
The scope of the committee is to recommend appropriate measures to resolve the various hardships faced by the sugarcane farmers in the wake of closer of the State’s sole sugar factory.
The Sanjivani Sugar factory has been shut since last one year. Earlier, this month, the government transferred the factory from the Registrar of Co-operative Societies to the Agriculture Department for its smooth functioning.
The sugarcane farmers have been assured by the government that their crop would be taken care. The Sawaikar headed committee has to submit its report to the State Level Committee.
