Ponda: The employees of the Sanjivani Sugar Factory on Wednesday protested against the non payment of salaries for the two-and-a half months and threatened to carry on with their agitation at the Azad Maidan if their issues were not resolved.
There are 95 permanent workers here while 78 work on a contractual basis who have not been paid salaries from May till date.
“ We are caught in a financial dilemma as we have not been paid our salaries for the last two months. The workers here have rendered their services for several years and the government should absorb us in some or the other department,” said an employee
Samir Kalangutkar and added that it would be difficult for them to find a new job now as this age.
Meanwhile, Dharbandora sarpanch Balaji alias Vinayak Gawas met the workers and expressed his support to them. “The government should absorb the workers in other departments and also pay them their pending remuneration on humanitarian grounds,” said Gawas.
