PONDA: Sanjivani Sugar Factory workers, who were appointed on COVID duty, on Monday, appealed to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to look into their pending salary for the month of April.

They also requested the government to absorb them as State government employee as they are getting poor salary for the past several years under Maharashtra Wage Board.

The workers said, “Since the crushing season is not operational at the factory we are placed on duty at various places. Some are operating at petrol pump owned by Sanjivani while many of them are sent on COVID duty at various hospitals where they are assisting in various works including handling of oxygen cylinders.”

Without the salary, the workers are finding it difficult to bear the expenses of around 80 to 150 km journey at various COVID hospitals in the State.

The workers said, “There are 104 confirm workers who are getting salary according to the Maharashtra Wage Board, which is around Rs 22,000 per month, very less compared to the State government employees.”

“We also requested the government to absorb us as State government employees with the government recently declaring to fill 10,000 jobs,” they claimed.
