Six councillors, including Damodar Ghadi, had moved no-confidence motion against Saglani on Wednesday. The next day, Ghadi filed an affidavit before the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA), stating that he had signed in favour of the motion under some pressure and due to some sort of confusion.
He further requested the DMA to delete his name from the councillors supporting the motion and also expressed his support to Saglani.
Speaking at a special council meeting, Saglani said the no-confidence motion moved by five councillors against him would not be fruitful, as one councillor had withdrawn his support in favour of the motion.
Surprisingly, all five councillors who signed the no-confidence motion remained absent at the meeting, which was attended by Saglani and Councillors Damodar Ghadi, Riaz Khan, Kunda Madkar, Rashmi Desai and Vibha Desai.
Saglani also informed that as many as seven chief officers were changed from SMC during his tenure of 18 months.
“Not a single resolution from among the 500 resolutions passed in nine different meetings of SMC was executed due to political pressure,” claimed Saglani.
“Sanquelim MLA Dr Pramod Sawant did not attend a single meeting despite being a co-opted member of the council. Development schemes worth about Rs 2.5 crore are pending due to non-cooperation from the State government authorities,” alleegd Saglani.
Meanwhile, Councillor Upendra Karpe, who signed in favour of the no-confidence motion, expressed confidence that Saglani would be ousted when the no-confidence motion comes up for discussion.
