BICHOLIM: Mystery shrouds the disappearance of a body from a grave at a kabrastan in Sanquelim as the locals and the police hold several connotations regarding the incident.
It may be recalled that one Abdul Karim Akhtar ( 56) died of natural cause on February 22. His final rites were performed the next day. But on Saturday, at around 7 am, when the family members visited the kabrastan to perform some religious ritual they were shocked to find the grave disturbed.
The son of the deceased, Osim Akhtar, immediately informed the Bicholim police. After inspection, they were shocked to discover that Akhtar’s body was missing.
The locals suspect that the body might have been stolen for the purpose of performing black magic.
On the other hand, the police suspect that it could be the handiwork of an inter-state gang in the area, who may have exhumed the body for some medical purpose.
“It will not be the work of a single person. A gang may be involved in the incident, which smuggles the bodies to other states and sell the same for some medical purpose,” police sources said.
The police have also grilled the deceased family members as well as the locals to get a  breakthrough.
