Sanquelim River crosses danger mark

BICHOLIM: The WRD engineers, fire fighters and other officials in Bicholim were kept on their toes following heavy rainfall as the water level of Sanquelim River crossed the danger mark. 
According to the sources, several cases of trees getting uprooted were reported in the taluka. 
In the first incident, a coconut tree collapsed on the house of one Sudesh Keshav Shet at Chimulwada, Bicholim, causing a loss of Rs 60,000. In another incident, a coconut tree fell on the house of one Sundari Babji Gauns at Kelbaiwada-Mayem, Bicholim.
A mud wall of the house of Nilima Nikhil Karanja, a resident of  Madalwada Vithalapur, collapsed on account of heavy rain, causing a loss of  Rs 15,000. The house occupants were shifted to a shelter house identified by the Mamlatdar office.
Bicholim mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit cautioned the commuters not to ply from the Sal bandhara towards Pernem. Late evening, the water flowed over the bridge forcing the authorities to deploy police personnel at the site. 
The water level of Sanquelim River crossed the danger mark and the shopkeepers were asked to take precautionary measures. Continuous pumping out of water was carried out in the Sanquelim market since morning. 
The road at Bandarwada, Bicholim, kulagars in Vathadev, Mayem, Sanquelim ground and other areas were submerged.
Several incidents of trees damaging houses and cowsheds were reported. At Mayem, a nullah was overflowing and the road near Mahamaya High School was blocked. An earthmover was pressed into service to clear the nullah. 
Several houses at Khalchawada, Amona in Sanquelim incurred huge losses.
