Complainant Inacio Domnic Pereira has alleged that the Old Goa Police Station failed to conduct any inquiry into a complaint filed on April 8, 2026, concerning alleged mangrove destruction, criminal negligence, and environmental damage in Santa Cruz.
Following the alleged inaction by police authorities, Pereira approached the Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Panjim, seeking intervention in the matter.
According to Pereira, the Dy Collector (SDO), Panjim, has now directed the Police Inspector of Old Goa Police Station to take necessary action and submit an Action Taken Report at the earliest.
Expressing disappointment over the alleged delay, Pereira criticised what he described as the apathy of police authorities towards environmental violations.
“Old Goa Police seems to have no time for serious cases involving environmental destruction and protecting the people responsible for the mangrove destruction,” Pereira alleged.
The matter has drawn attention amid growing concerns over the protection of mangroves and ecologically sensitive zones in Goa.
