PANJIM: The villagers of Santa Cruz led by John Nazareth on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the PWD executive engineer, works division II (roads) drawing his attention to the condition of roads in the constituency that were dug for laying 11 KV underground electricity cables and posing risk to the motorists.
In the memorandum, Nazareth stated that before the onset of monsoon, the Electricity Department had laid 11 KV underground power cables by digging the roads as there were no utility duct for laying the cables, pipelines, internet cables etc.
The said portion was dug for laying the cables and was covered with soil and tarring of the road was done.
But wherever digging was undertaken, the roads had caved in throughout the constituency making it difficult for motorists especially the two-wheeler riders. The caved-in roads pose great risk for the speeding two-wheelers.
Nazareth said that there were speculations that the said problem had occurred due to sub-standard work of filling the dug-up portion of the roads.
The villagers have urged the authorities to repair the caved-in portion and other potholes on the roads at the earliest keeping in view of the danger to the people.
