PANJIM: The Santa Cruz village panchayat’s plan to construct a panchayat ghar has hit a roadblock as the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) issued a show cause notice to the panchayat for filling of khazan land.
The Santa Cruz village panchayat has denied any land filling by the panchayat even as the land was acquired by the State government for the construction of panchayat ghar. The land was later transferred to the village panchayat.
After the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department found that the land in question was khazan land, decided not to grant any permission to the village panchayat for undertaking any construction activity.
Additional Government Advocate Pravin Faldessai has been asked to file an affidavit on behalf of the GCZMA.
The Khazan Society of Goa has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) writ petition before the High Court praying that no construction activity be allowed in the khazan land.
The Court has now asked the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) to inspect the site and submit report during the next hearing fixed on August 5.
