CUNCOLIM: A small ward of Cuncolim Municipal Council, Sanvorcoto, inspired by Central government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and State government initiative ‘Swayampurn Goa’, has churned in Smart Sanvorcotto—a self-striving endeavor to turn the ward into an apparent ‘smart ward’. Since the idea is conceived, ward councillor John Dias, along with his ardent supporters, are striving hard to accomplish the task.
Under the banner of Smart Sanvorcotto the team has installed Convex Mirrors at six different places, primarily in accidents prone zones where drivers find difficult to see and locate the vehicle coming from opposite direction. Citizens of Sanvorcotto are appreciating the wonderful job done by the youth brigade.
In this COVID pandemic, despite curfew, team Smart Sanvorcotto has apparently continued the work to make their plan successful. Team members even provided free food to those who were found COVID positive and were in isolation. Team also went to every COVID patient’s house to provide Nebulizer for steam. Some places they provided ration and vegetables.
Dias apparently started small with few helping hands but now he has hundreds of people coming forward to make his dream come true.
Speaking about this unique project councillor John Dias said, “We had put one step ahead with limited resources now people are coming ahead to help the cause. We have received help from Pune and also from New Zealand now our next target is to install CCTV cameras across the whole ward. We are confident that our dream to make Sanvorcotto a smart ward will come true,” said Dias.
Sanvorcotto ward is seated on bank of river Sal and vulnerable to get flooded when the river swells from its usual level.
This ward with population of around 1800, takes the pride of giving some freedom fighters to State namely Dattaram Dessai, Kunde, Keni.
Team Smart Sanvorcotto had been very proactive in restricting spread of Coronavirus with continuously spreading awareness and helping the COVID patients. To segregate COVID patients’ garbage they distributed special colour dustbins to them. They are relentlessly providing all facilities to those who got infected and supplying them the essentials like food, medicines, groceries, vegetables and even free transport to shift positive patients to hospital. Sanvorcotto ward is having mixed population. Cuncolim Municipal Council consist of fourteen wards other wards must also follow Sanvorcoto without waiting for any reason or for any publicity, claim the locals.
