MARGAO: The Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress (GPMC) visited the flood-affected areas in Sanvordem Constituency and distributed groceries, besides other essentials of day-to-day use at Dhadem, Kalay and Voidem villages.
The GPMC alleged that PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar and BJP government failed to provide basic amenities to the people of Sanvordem.
GPMC President Beena Naik along with Margao Block President Doris Texeira and Sanvordem Block President Gautam Bhandari and Youth Block President Sanket Bhandari visited the flood-affected areas.
During the visit, Beena gave an ear to the issues raised by the locals and was touched by the sufferings that they go through for getting the drinking water supply.
She condemned the local MLA Deepak Pauskar, who happens to be the PWD Minister for not being able to provide drinking water to the people of Sanvordem Constituency.
“Sanvordem being a mining area the water of the stream was all polluted and there was water surrounding all the houses. There is no water tank or water tap provided in the villages which is a very shameful and serious thing for the minister holding the PWD portfolio. If he cannot provide basic needs like water to the people of his own constituency what type of development, he can do for the State,” she asked.
She further mentioned that in the village of Dhadem, which is just one-and-a-half kilometres away from the minister’s house, a lot of mud filling is done in the Zuari River ahead. The loading and unloading of mine ore place which was in concrete have been washed away, and the houses close to that are in danger as a lot of soil erosion has started taking place. The BJP minister has totally failed in taking safety measures for the locals of Dhadem village.
“Due to river dredging, railways, double-tracking, high pressure of water has led to soil erosion, and the houses nearby area are in danger,” she claimed.
The GPMC president claimed that nearly 75 per cent of the constituency is facing a water shortage which the local MLA-cum-minister has not taken care of; even though the MLA of that constituency happens to be the PWD Minister.
Beena expressed shock when she learned that there are no basic medical facilities close by. People have to either travel to Ponda or Margao for medical treatment.
