SANGUEM: The body of 17-year-old Saidutt Naik, a resident of Dhadem Sanvordem, feared to have drowned in the river at Muslimwada, Sanguem, was retrieved on Sunday.

It may be recalled that Saidutt along with his three friends had gone for a bath in the Sanguem River on Saturday afternoon. When they ventured into the river, the water swelled during the high tide and Saidutt got pulled in by the strong undercurrents.

On hearing Saidutt’s cries for help, his friend reportedly tried to pull him out, but in vain.

After receiving information about the incident, the Disaster Rescue Team of Department of Fire and Emergency Services from Curchorem, Ponda and Panjim and Drishti personnel was pressed into service along with the divers from Indian Navy, who retrieved the body on Sunday.

It is learnt that Saidutt never used to go much with his friends and according to available information, he had not moved out of the house since day one of the lockdown.

He was very fond of music and played the ‘tabla’ and other musical instruments.

On the fateful day, his parents were not at home. Saidutt had recently answered his Class XII exam, informed sources.
