MARGAO: Authorities addressed the issue of unattended garbage at the Sao Jose de Areal village panchayat office, removing a significant amount of waste and responding to villager’s concerns about cleanliness. The citizens expressed relief and happiness following the removal but reminded the panchayat of the importance of consistent garbage management to avoid health hazards.
The incident, highlighted by O Heraldo, revealed that the waste, primarily plastic, was intended for collection by the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC). However, a communication lapse led to the panchayat failing to notify the corporation, resulting in the garbage accumulation.
Fredy Travaso, a local social activist, stated, “Following the outcry from the community, all the unattended garbage dumped in the premises of the panchayat office was promptly removed the next day.” He emphasised the importance of
the panchayat’s responsiveness to such issues, as they directly impact the health and well-being of the villagers.
