Sao Jose de Areal Villagers Halt MMC Waste Transport for Violations in Nessai Industrial Estate

In a demonstration of local concern, residents of Sao Jose de Areal took action to intercept an MMC truck and its labourers transporting dry waste for baling purposes at the Nessai Industrial Estate. The villagers’ intervention stemmed from recent instances where MMC vehicles were found transporting overweight dry waste without appropriate coverings, leading to an accumulation of waste exceeding the vehicle’s body capacity.

Days ago, villagers encountered an MMC vehicle carrying dry waste that breached weight limits and lacked proper coverings, with the waste reaching heights beyond the vehicle body level. Responding to this violation, the residents contacted MMC’s Chief Personnel, Damodar Shirodkar, urging immediate resolution at the site. Despite their call for higher authorities to intervene, no senior MMC representatives responded on-site, leaving the issue unresolved.

Faced with the absence of higher authority and concern about safety standards, the villagers insisted that the overloaded dry waste be redistributed to compliant vehicles. As a precautionary measure and a warning signal, the villagers allowed the MMC vehicle to continue its journey only after the directive to transfer the excess waste was communicated firmly.
