MARGAO: There was an uproar in Sao Jose de Areal village over the installation of a mobile tower in a government school property.

While the locals had gathered near the site to protest against the installation of the tower, BJP leader and its former Velim candidate Savio Rodrigues, criticised the State government and urged them to take the public into confidence while selecting such sites for installing mobile towers.

Rodrigues questioned how the representative of the mobile company refused to accept the show-cause notice issued by the Sarpanch of the Sao Jose De Areal village panchayat and lashed out at ‘dadagiri’ displayed.

Rodrigues emphasised that the mobile tower should not come up in the middle of the school as it could be harmful. It may be recalled that recently Velim MLA Cruz Silva had taken a delegation of locals from the constituency to meet the South Goa District Collector and appealed to the government to take cognisance of the concerns being put forward by the residents of the villages in which mobile towers are being set up.

The panchayat too had taken a decision to issue a stop-work order but their authority was not recognised by the mobile company.
