Saptah is celebrated in Sravan (as per Hindu calendar).
Industrialist Narayan Bandekar, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Mormugao MLA and Minister Milind Naik, MMC chairperson Deepak Naik, chief officer Deepali Naik and other municipal councillors besides devotees in large number were present to witness coconut installation ceremony and to seek blessings of Lord Damodar.
With regards to security arrangements, the state administration has erected about nine watch towers along with CCTV cameras. These towers would be manned by the police until midnight every day for seven days. Around 300 police staff is deployed along with commandos, Indian Reserve Battalion personnel, Goa police and staff in civil clothes. For public convenience the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has placed mobile toilets at several locations.
Meanwhile in order to make Saptah garbage free, the Vasco MLA has distributed over 15000 eco friendly bags to the vendors and MMC has decided to keep a strong vigil on usage of plastic bags and would impose fine on people found with plastic bags at Saptah fair venue. Special arrangements of allotting stalls to self help groups and mahila mandals has been made in saptah fair.
