MARGAO:   The 12-day SARAS 2014 held at the SGPDA grounds, Margao has evoked tremendous response, with the fair so far registering a turnover of Rs 35 lakh.
Rural development agency (RDA)  officials exuded confidence that the turn over should touch Rs 1 crore this year in view of the encouraging response from the people of south Goa.
Fair co-ordinator Anjulo Fernandes told the media that self help groups from 20 states, including Goa are participating in the 12-day fair at the SGPDA grounds. “There are 175 stalls put up at the fair and around 176 outstation and 81 local artisans are participating in the fair this year”, Anjulo said.
Replying to a question, he said that various handicraft items are being displayed for sale at the fair, giving a platform for the artisans and people under Below Poverty Line to market their produce”, he said.
Curtains will come down on the 12-day festival on February 13 evening, and the RDA officials expect that the turn over will cross the Rs 1 crore figure. The fair is being financed and funded by the central and state governments for the benefit of the artisans below the poverty line.
