Sardana had downloaded info on making bombs

PANJIM: In a major breakthrough, the three investigating agencies interrogating terror suspect Sameer Sardana have found he had downloaded information on how to prepare bombs.

The join interrogation by the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Goa Police, National Investigation Agency (NIA) New Delhi and Intelligence Bureau (IB) is on its fifth day. An officer, on the condition of anonymity, said they are still not able to link Sardana with any terror organisation or any individual.
“After decoding the laptop we have found that he has also downloaded information from the internet on how to prepare bombs, besides surfing past bomb blast incidents in the country,” a senior ATS officer said.
Sources said Sardana is not co-operating with the investigating agencies which is hampering the discovery of a motive.
ATS, IB and NIA are interrogating Sardana at the ATS base in Ribandar. NIA sleuths also questioned him on Thursday. “We have interrogated Sardana over the downloaded content but he has not revealed anything. We are still not linking him to any terror plot,” the ATS official said.
The laptop, which was decoded on Wednesday, has revealed that Sardana was using multiple email IDs but so far the agencies have not been able to find out where and why Sardana corresponded on different emails with different users.
The Inspector General of Goa Police said this is a national security issue and it is being handled in the right manner.
Sardana, the son of a retired Army Major General from Dehradun, was arrested at Vasco railway station on Monday by ATS as his behaviour was found suspicious.
A chartered accountant by profession, he was arrested with one laptop, seven cell phones and five passports. Investigating agencies confirmed on Thursday that he had visited several Muslim countries.
