FATORDA: Goa forward Party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai addressed a corner meeting in Pajifond on Tuesday evening. Speaking to a highly responsive and enthusiastic audience, Sardesai lambasted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’s faulty policies resulting in the steep price rise in daily commodities. He called on the people to remember the situation last November, when the BJP had lost in the bye-elections in the Lok Sabha and State assemblies. “Immediately, petrol prices came down by Rs 10,” he pointed out, “Modi’s election is in 2024 and you can easily make prices come down till then. Defeat the BJP in Goa, there will be no price rise till 2024.”
Sardesai added that the BJP was anti-people in all senses. “It is not only destroying people’s lives by the ‘mhangai’, it is also trying to create communal discord and enmity among Goans, just to remain in power,” he said. “The Kabrastan issue is a typical example of the divisive policy of this government. It was originally proposed at Sonsoddo, but the local STs had some genuine reservations to which the Muslims also agreed. The Kabrastan was shifted by my mediation to a location where a large number of Muslims live and where nobody had any objections. But ‘Property’ Sawant has made a statement that the Kabrastan should be in Sonsoddo. The BJP’s aim is to instigate ill-will and discontent between the Catholic STs and Muslims. The BJP is planning and conspiring to disrupt Goa’s communal harmony and make Goans hate and fight each other. It is our duty, as Goans first, to unite and vote this divisive BJP government out of power,” Sardesai added.
Sardesai also spoke on the Sonsoddo issue. He said, “The problem was inherited by me. As your MLA, I have taken many steps towards a total solution – remediation of the legacy waste, making Fomento give up the waste management plant, making Margao Municipality provide funds for bio-methanation plants at Sonsoddo. However, this BJP government does not want to solve the issue. In spite of the municipality paying for the bio-methanation plants, which will take care of the daily waste, the government has still not given permission to install them. These people do not deserve to be in the Government. They stop work which people want and then tell lies and blame their opponents. Not just Sonsoddo, but the BJP ex-MLA has even stooped so low to stop development works which benefit nobody else but the people of Fatorda. But Fatordekars are smart enough to know the reality. I am sure that you will defeat those who indulge in such negative politics. You have to make sure that a pro-people, Goemkarwadi Government of our alliance comes to power and governs Goa as per people’s wishes”.
