MARGAO: South Goa Congress MP Francisco Sardinha has criticised Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Mormugao MLA Milind Naik for being responsible for the outbreak of COVID-19 cases in Goa. He added that the increase in cases is due to the failure of the government in not putting Vasco under lockdown.

Sardinha further stated that to avoid the ESI Hospital, the State had the time to upgrade the local health infrastructure. “Today, people in COVID Care Centers are suffering. I urge the Governor to give the wisdom to the government to take the right decisions” said Sardinha.

Opposes railway double tracking

On the issue of the opposition being raised by locals to the South Western Railway double tracking project, Sardinha said he doesn’t support the doubling of tracks from Majorda and raised concerns about the problems the locals will face, if the work continues.

“Till Margao, doubling can be accepted but from Majorda areas there are old heritage houses and habitation in close proximity and it will affect the villages adversely,” the MP added.

Objects to online exams

Sardinha further requested the State government to ensure the availability of devices, network and regular power supply to the students of Goa taking online education. However, he opposed the holding of exams on the online platform.

He also asked the government to address problems faced by students.

“Help the students and teach them the entire backlog that they may have missed out on, during the online education classes due to various reasons,” Sardinha added.

Says Congress crisis in

Rajasthan is unfortunate

He also reacted to the Congress party developments in Rajasthan. “It is unfortunate that Congress leaders of the likes of Sachin Pilot are falling prey to the BJPs plans. The local leadership has failed, in Rajasthan as well as in Goa to control defection,” he said.

“Sachin Pilot was a Deputy Chief Minister and the Congress Party President, what else do you want?” Okay, some things are not that good but bring it to the High Command, not run away from the party” Sardinha added.

He further said the Karnataka issue was different as the party was in coalition, while Rajasthan was a full-fledged Congress ruled State.

When asked about his decision to quit some years ago he said, “I was a senior and we have to keep the seniority. I quit but did not join elsewhere, I proved my point and came back to the party.
