Sardinha, Valanka next on the firing line

PANJIM: After the suspension of South Goa district chief Subhash Faldessai and former power minister Aleixo Sequeira, the state unit has now recommended the dismissal of former Member of Parliament Francisco Sardinha and former youth Congress president Valanka Alemao from the party membership.

In a recent disciplinary report, submitted to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, state president John Fernandes has recommended that both should be dismissed from the party for their anti-party activities during the Lok Sabha elections.
He pointed out that both had refused to campaign for the Congress candidates and supported their own family members who had contested as independent and on TMC ticket respectively.
Valanka had refrained from canvassing for the party candidate after her father Churchill who was denied the ticket contested on Trinamool Congress ticket.
Sardinha, supported his son Shalom who contested as an Independent after being denied the South Goa ticket.
While Valanka is currently under suspension, Sardinha was issued show cause notice by disciplinary committee, to which he had not replied. “GPCC president during his visit to Delhi last week has submitted the report, wherein it has accused both Sardinha and Valanka of  not supporting the party candidate during the Lok Sabha elections and thereafter,” a senior Congress member told Herald. Subhash Faldessai has now been replaced by Altinho Gomes as South Goa district chief.
