Saresh Lotlikar is AG but may have to play second fiddle to Nadkarni

Nadkarni will continue to represent State in Mhadei tribunal, SC and NGT; Dattaprasad Lawande is Additional AG

PANJIM: Saresh Lotlikar will be the next Advocate General of Goa but former AG Atmaram Nadkarni will continue to appear for the State on critical issues, the Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar announced on Friday.
Making this announcement, Parsekar said the post had fallen vacant after Nadkarni’s resignation following his appointment as Additional Solicitor General of India.
“The cabinet has today decided that the Saresh Lotlikar be appointed AG while Dattaprasad Vithal Prabhu Lawande will be the Additional Advocate General,” Parsekar said.
The Chief Minister further said that Nadkarni will continue to appear for the State in crucial cases like Mhadei etc. “During my last visit to Delhi I had spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and he had agreed to allow Nadkarni in the interest of the State, though no formal confirmation has been received from his office so far,” Parsekar said.
He said Nadkarni has done much research on Mhadei and the State needs him at this juncture. “Nobody will disagree that he has done a tremendous job on Mhadei issue in the tribunal and we have decided he will continue to represent State on Mhadei issue besides some issues in the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal,” Parsekar said.
The CM, however, refused to answer in what capacity Nadkarni would represent Goa in Mhadei, SC and NGT. He also did not offer any comments on the financial agreement with Nadkarni for representing the State. “Why do you want to know everything? Let us talk about it later,” Parsekar said.
