BICHOLIM: The Sarmanas ferry commuters on Friday expressed displeasure over having only one ferry plying on the Sarmanas-Marcel route and demanded immediate action from River Navigation Department.
Many people avail this route from Bicholim and Pilgao but only one ferry service for over a week now, has disarrayed the schedule of daily passengers, which has invariably caused huge difficulty for them.
“During peak hours, especially in the morning and in the evening a huge crowd can be seen waiting for hours to board the ferry. We are daily commuters on this route and since last more than a week there is only one ferry on this route. We get late to go to work as there are many who go to Kundaim and Ponda from this route,” a commuter said.
“This is a busy route and there is a need of two ferries. As there is only one ferry, the people are suffering. There is rush of scooters on this route, the cars have to wait for hours together to enter the ferry,” another commuter said.
As there is only one ferry, people from Pilgao and Bicholim are forced to detour from Sanquelim, and travel around 30 km to Marcel.
“Panchayat should look into the matter and resolve the issue. The panchayat should write to the concerned authorities about this issue and get it resolved,” said the commuter.
