PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has directed Director of Panchayat to issue show cause notice to the sarpanch and deputy sarpanch of 69 panchayats, who have failed to obtain permission from Goa State Pollution Control Board to set up Garbage Material Recovery Facility.

The Court has directed the department to issue show-cause notices in 15 days asking why the Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch of defaulting Panchayats should not be removed as per the Panchayat Raj Act.

The Goa Waste Management Corporation had last September warned the village panchayats of attracting court’s stern action if it fails to set up material recovery facilities in their respective villages. For this, prior permission from the Pollution Board is mandatory.
