MAPUSA: The Anjuna Caisua Biodiversity Management Committee claimed that they are unable to complete their People’s Biodiversity Register (PBR) since the sarpanch of Anjuna Caisua Panchayat denied them from doing the documentation of Ward No. 11.
Addressing the media, Chairman of Anjuna Caisua Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) Michael D’Souza said that the committee has to maintain a registered document called People’s Biodiversity Registered which depicts all the biodiversity in the village ward wise. Till now the committee managed to complete documentation of eight wards but since sarpanch refused to document the Ward No. 11, the register is incomplete.
D’Souza said that the secretary rarely attend the monthly meetings and does not take any active part in any of the activities. Also the technical support group has delayed the process of PBR by not visiting regularly in the village for documentation as per the clause of the Goa State Biodiversity Board.
Alleging that sarpanch does not intend to give office room to biodiversity management committee of Anjuna Caisua, D’Souza said that as per the rules of the Bio Diversity Act, the panchayat is suppose to give office room to BMC to function in the panchayat premises.
Office for BMC was given in the old panchayat building which is demolished and now new one is constructed. However from 2015, we are making several applications to sarpanch and concerned authorities but sarpanch is not ready to give office room to BMC and since there is no office room allotted to BMC. The committee is forced to conduct meetings outside panchayat building.
