Sarpanchas from Sanvordem plead for non-stop mining

Say that dependents will suffer severe hardship if mining is stopped suddenly

PONDA: All the seven sarpanchas of Sanvordem mining belt have pleaded with the government not to stop mining in Goa suddenly, as, they said, it would put the people of the mining belt to great hardship, once again.
The sarpanchas made this plea during a press conference addressed by them on Thursday at Ponda. The panchas of all the seven villages falling under Dharbandora constituency and Dharbandora Truck Owners Association (DTOA) President Balaji Gawas were also present for the press conference.
The sarpanchas said that the people of Dharbandora constituency were fully dependent on mining activities; therefore, the government should find an urgent solution to the Supreme Court order.
The sarpanchas said they were not against auction process of mining, but while implementing the court order, the government should find a way to keep the mining business running.
“The SC order will definitely affect the mining dependants and since the BJP is ruling at the Centre and the State, it should bring a bill or an ordinance so to keep the mining business running in Goa,” they said.
The sarpanchas who addressed the press conference are: Sandeep Pauskar (Savordem), Manish Lambore (Collem), Kishore Desai (Kallem), Tanvi Kerkar (Mollem), Shankuntala Gaonkar (Kirlapal Dabal), Swathi Gawas (Dharbandora) and Neha Kalekar (Sakorda).
