BICHOLIM: Residents of Ektanagar, Sarvan-Bicholim, have threatened to stage a rally in protest over the erratic water supply since the last three months.
Speaking to Herald, the residents came down heavily on the PWD for not listening to their pleas to supply drinking water to about 100 families residing in the area. The residents of Ektanagar have been demanding water, as their taps have run dry since the last three months.
“This is a very hot season and one can’t imagine life without water. Our taps have run dry since last three months and the authorities are not making any attempt to supply water to us,” complained Kavita Naik from Ektanagar.
According to information, the residents contacted the PWD office several times for water but as the pipeline is placed in a faulty manner, the water does not reach the taps due to low pressure.
The residents are forced to depend on water from the wells of Sarvan village, situated about a kilometre away.
“We are forced to go to Sarvan and procure water from residents. But for how long are we to do this?” questioned Vijaya Parab. “They might allow us to fill water for some days, but no one will be so cooperative if this situation continues for long,” she added.
According to information, the residents requested the PWD several times demanding to resolve the issue or at-least to supply water through tankers.
“We are demanding with the PWD since the last many months. Earlier, they assured that our problem will be solved after the elections, but now they are claiming that there is still election code of conduct in force and they cannot do anything,” Daya Ashtekar said.
Meanwhile, the residents have demanded with Deputy Speaker Anant Shet to look into the matter and have also threatened to carry out a rally if their problem is not solved in the next few days.
They have pointed that this summer is particularly hot and humid and the need for wate is felt much more than other times.
