Satarkar appointed CIC, Dhavalikar SIC

PANJIM: Former State Legislative Assembly Speaker Vishwas Satarkar is appointed as the new Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and senior journalist Sanjay Dhavalikar as the State Information Commissioner (SIC) for a period of three years.

The names finalised by the State government, got consent from Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.  Following this, the appointment was notified by Director of Information and Publicity Sudhir Kerkar

Satarkar, a BJP loyalist was elected from Priol Constituency on party symbol in 1999. He was Speaker of Goa Assembly from 2002-05. 

Dhavalikar is a senior journalist and was also the Editor to one of the leading Marathi daily, from where he resigned earlier this month. 

“The CIC and SIC shall hold office for a term of three years from the date on which he enters upon his office or till he attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier,” the order mentioned. 

The post of CIC had fallen vacant in February, last year with retirement of Prashant Tendulkar, while SIC Juino De Souza had retired in July, 2020. It’s last SIC Partima Vernekar, demitted office, last week.
