VALPOI: Farmers from Sattari have demanded subsidy from the government due to drastic fall in cashew production this year.
As is the case elsewhere in Goa, the cashew production in Sattari taluka has fallen drastically. The cashew season has not been favourable to the farmers in the remote villages, complained cashew farmers from Sattari taluka.
The farmers claimed that the yield was not even half of what was produced in the previous year. They also said that the dew factor also affected cashew production and demanded a subsidy from the Government.
“Till date, we have not been able to get at least one kg of cashew nuts. This year, we used fertilisers, but all our efforts did not bear any fruit, complained Kashinath Kerkar.
“We have not visited our cashew plantations till now and this year, cashew nut rate is very less as compared to last year,” said Madhu Kotkar, another local.
