VALPOI: Farmers from Morlem, Gulem, and Pansule areas of Sattari are upset over water shortage for irrigation despite being in the close proximity to the Anjunem Dam.
The aggrieved locals recall that Anjunem dam was constructed for the benefit of farmers from Keri, Poriem and Morlem. The dam also had the full support of Poriem MLA Pratapsing Rane.
“Hundreds of hectares of agriculture land were being irrigated with the help of this dam. Water is stored during the rainy season and is then released for irrigation and drinking purpose from the water purification plant, says Ramnath Parab, a farmer.
The aggrieved farmers recently held a meeting under the leadership of Morlem Sarpanch Shubada Gawas to chart their course of action.
According to Laxman Gawas, a farmer from Pansule, the Sattari farmers have decided to stage a protest outside the main gate of the dam demanding release of water.
